10 Life Edit Journal Prompts for August

journaling

August always feels like a bit of a reset.

Summer isn’t quite over, but there’s enough of the year behind you to notice what’s working, what isn’t, and what you might want to change before heading into the final few months of 2026.

You don’t need a brand-new life plan. Sometimes you just need to get quiet enough to hear what you already know.

These journal prompts are designed to help you check in with yourself, get clear on what you want, and notice where your life might be ready for an edit.

10 Journal Prompts:

1. What do I want the rest of 2026 to look like?

Forget what you thought this year was supposed to look like back in January. What do you want now?

Think about how you want your days to feel, what you want to prioritize, what you want to experience, and what would make the rest of this year feel meaningful.

2. What boundary do I need to set in my life?

Where are you feeling resentful, overextended, drained, or frustrated?

Sometimes that feeling is pointing to a boundary that needs to be created, communicated, or actually enforced.

3. What should I declutter that I’ve been putting off?

This could be a closet, your inbox, your calendar, your phone, a pile of paperwork, or something else that has been quietly taking up mental space.

What would feel good to finally tidy up and let go of?

4. Where am I playing smaller in my life?

Where are you holding yourself back because you’re afraid of failing, being judged, taking up too much space, or wanting too much?

What might change if you stopped shrinking yourself and the goal?

5. What am I avoiding that I need to deal with?

The email. The conversation. The appointment. The decision. The project.

What keeps sitting in the back of your mind because you know it needs your attention?

6. What do I need more of in my life right now?

More fun? Rest? Adventure? Connection? Structure? Creativity? Movement? Support?

Instead of automatically focusing on what needs to be fixed, ask yourself what you want to add.

7. What relationships deserve more, or less, of my attention?

Not every relationship needs the same amount of access to your time and energy.

Who do you want to invest in more? And where might you need to stop forcing a connection that no longer feels reciprocal or aligned?

8. What in my life needs to be let go so I can move forward?

Sometimes the next version of your life requires releasing something from the current one.

An expectation. An old identity. A habit. A commitment. A goal you don’t even want anymore.

What are you ready to stop carrying?

9. What habits do I need to start to become the person I want to be?

Think less about creating the perfect routine and more about the person you’re becoming.

What would that version of you do regularly?

Choose one or two small habits that would start creating evidence of that identity now.

10. What’s an important goal I need to start working on?

Not someday. Not when life calms down.

What is one goal that still genuinely matters to you, and what is the first step you could take this month?

Edit Your Life

A life edit isn’t about waking up tomorrow and becoming an entirely different person.

It’s about noticing what no longer fits, getting clear on what you want instead, and starting to make small intentional changes in that direction.

One boundary. One habit. One decision. One uncomfortable conversation. One thing finally crossed off the list.

Those edits might feel small while you’re making them. But small changes have a way of compounding.

And six months from now, you might realize your life looks very different because you finally started. If you want help figuring out where to begin, grab my free Life Edit Guide.
